Once you having decided to have your child baptised into the Catholic Church the next step is to make contact with your local Catholic parish.
If you aren’t sure about which parish you belong to, then simply use your internet search engine using the following key words: the name of your suburb/town, catholic, parish. Most Catholic parishes have a website and you should be able to find the contact phone number and possibly some details about baptism in your local parish.
Parents and sometimes godparents are asked to participate in a Baptism preparation program. Preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism may occur in the context of a group with other parents or on a one to one basis. Practice varies from parish to parish but a typical baptismal preparation program involves attending a number of sessions with the parish priest, a parish pastoral associate or members of the local parish community. The purpose of the preparation sessions is to provide an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism for the child and the parents and Godparents.
