White is symbolic of purity. It is through baptism that our sins are washed away and we become ‘clean’ because of Jesus Christ.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says “The white garment symbolises that the person baptised has 'put on Christ', has risen with Christ.” (#1243)

If it is not practical to wear white, then a stole or ‘bib’ can be used to represent the white clothing
